Prevent & Correct Sun Damaged Skin

Prevent & Correct Sun Damaged Skin

To prevent and correct sun damaged skin, there’s a serious serum that was made for those of us who previously worshipped the sun.  It is by far the only formula to date that can protect and prevent.

A combination of synergistic antioxidants with L-ascorbic Acid (also known as pure vitamin C), plus Alpha Tocopherol (also known as vitamin E) and Ferulic Acid help to prevent and correct sun damaged skin.

This potent formula neutralizes free radicals induced by UVA/UVB, infrared radiation (IRA), and ozone pollution (O3), and other environmental damages which may lead to visible signs of accelerated skin aging.  In addition to the antioxidant protective benefits, the serum actually improves signs of aging and photo damage including the appearance of lines and wrinkles, firmness, and an added benefit of brightening skin’s overall complexion.  However if you have extremely sensitive skin or an allergy to ferulic acid, be advised to test on a small section of skin before using it on your entire face.

Additionally once the serum is absorbed into clean skin, it remains effective for a minimum of 72 hours or 3 days! It’s ideal for normal, dry, and sensitive skin types.

Ferulic Acid is found naturally in the seeds of fruits like apples and oranges, as well as some vegetables, nuts, and grains, and fights the free-radical damage that contributes to aging. Most commonly it is extracted from Rice Bran Oil.  Ferulic acid plays a key role in the plants self preservation mechanism, re-enforcing it’s cellular wall strength and protecting it from microbial damage as well as sun damage. In vivo testing has shown Ferulic Acid to be highly effective as a topical anti-oxidant.

Ferulic Acid also is able to stabilize the oxidization effect normally occurring in regular Vitamin C serums. It is often referred to as anti-oxidant extender whereas the combination of Vitamin C with Ferulic Acid prevents oxidation which occurs when exposed to moisture or air. This combination allows products to ensure great benefits of both directly to the skin.

Ferulic Acid, combined at 0.8%-.5%, with 15% Vitamin C works to stabilize the Vitamin C, preventing the oxidation.  Adding in Vitamin E with at least 1% has shown to double the photo protective capacity on the skin while providing additional moisturizing benefits, neutralizes free radicals and replenishing skin lipids.  Studies have shown that the benefit of Vitamin E and Vitamin C increased the skin’s photo protective benefits by 4 times the normal level and then when the at least .5% Ferulic Acid is added, that number doubles the protective benefits to 8X times the normal level

Additional ingredients that help maximize these benefits may include Hyaluronic Acid.  Hyaluronic acid keeps collagen synthesis up, as well as retaining skin moisture, contributing to the anti-aging benefits to the skin.

When choosing the correct serum, do pay attention to the manufactured date as freshness is critical to the effectiveness and performance of any topical antioxidant product.

Prevent & Correct Sun Damaged Skin by ensuring the serum has the correct numbers percentages of the following ingredients :

Ferulic Acid of .5% to.8%

L-ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) of 15%

Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E) of 1%

Products can range from $25 to $250, but you can ensure effectiveness when these are the only ingredients and the product is fresh.

Contouring for Dramatic Lips

Believe it or not but you can actually enhance the shape of your lips. When you want a dramatic look, this is a go to tactic from the professionals.

Maybe a dramatic overall face contour isn’t for you. But what about lip contour?  As we age, our lips begin to thin naturally overtime, but contouring the lip can restore volume.  Contouring is simply about adding dimension.  It’s about the light and the dark to create that added volume and dimension.  However the darker the shade the smaller the lips can appear.

To do this, you’ll need a liner,  lipstick in complementary shades with one two shades lighter than the other, as well as concealer and a gloss.  Make sure to use a liner is at least darker than your natural lip tone.  If you use the same color as your lipstick, it takes away the illusion.

There are two ways to contour your lips: Marilyn Monroe Style or Kabuki style.

Before you begin make sure you prep!  Start with a cleansed face that has been exfoliated, make sure the lips are exfoliated to scrub off any dry patches.

Marilyn Monroe Contouring for Dramatic Lips

This technique is nothing new and it should makes us all think that looking fabulous and camera ready takes time!  Marilyn was known for her contouring lips by applying darker reds on the outer corners and lighter hues brushed in the middle of the lips.

First line your lips just slightly outside of the lip line over the edge where there’s a slight ridge before the pigment of your lips begins. Draw the lines going inward toward the center of your mouth. The liner shade should be the shade nearest to the darkest lipstick.  Using the dark lipstick, apply to the outer half of your lips.  Carefully fill in the center with the second, lighter shade.

Kabuki Contouring for Dramatic Lips

First line your lips just slightly outside of the lip line over the edge where there’s a slight ridge before the pigment of your lips begins. Draw the lines going inward toward the center of your mouth.  The liner shade should be the shade nearest to the darkest lipstick.  Take the liner and make a soft heart drawing using the top hills of the lips to form the heart.  Fill the out areas of the heart with the lighter lip shade and the inner heart area with the darker shade.

Use a sponge or brush to carefully blend the two shades together, making sure not to verge too far into the others’ territory. If you make a mistake onto the face area, use a concealer to  around the edges.  Concealer also helps make the lips pop out.

Keep in mind, this isn’t a look you can just swipe on and forget about. It definitely requires regular upkeep.  But when you want drama, you can believe this will give it to you!

2. Eye Serums are another way to over hydrate the eye area. Serums are amazing at sealing in the moisture and helps soften the wrinkle folds.  Look for serums with hyaluronic acid as it is one of the most efficient hydrating ingredients capable of holding 1,000 times its weight in water.  It will help smooth and pump up the skin while still safe to use around the eye area.

We all know apples are an amazing super food helping out with all sorts of health benefits.  Apples may mitigate the effects of asthma, brain health, bone health, pulmonary function while promoting anti-cholesterol, blood oxygenation, red blood cell count, proper digestion and even weight loss. Apples are high in fiber and Vitamin C, low in calories, have only a trace of sodium, and no fat or cholesterol.  They are high in minerals and polyphenols, which function as antioxidants.

Apples are just as amazing when applied topically to the skin.

Vitamin C – Apples contain a high amount of Vitamin C, which helps produce collagen. Collagen is a crucial structural component of skin and helps maintain your skin’s waterproof barrier.

Copper – Apples contain a high amount of Copper which helps make melanin, the pigment that colors your skin. Melanin also protects your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, so being able to produce melanin provides natural sun protection.

Vitamin A – Apples also provide a small amount of Vitamin A, also referred to as Retinoids, which helps skin develop into mature and functional skin tissue.

Beta Carotene – Like all carotenoids, is an antioxidant that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules and protects the skin from free radicals.  Free radicals damage cells through oxidation and ultimately cause skin to wrinkle and sag.

Iron – Iron assists with providing oxygen to the skin and assists with red blood cell production. This helps with the skin circulation.

Potassium – Potassium helps keep skin cells hydrated and skin internally moisturized.

Vitamin B-Complex – These include Thiamine (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Niacin (B3), Pantothenic Acid (B5), Pyridoxine (B6), Biotin (B7), Inositol (B8) and Folic Acid (B9).  Topically applied vitamin B derivatives will improve the balance, texture, and moisture retention of your skin heal a damaged complexion when applied topically and also when taken internally.  They help the body to produce red blood cells, combat the negative effects of stress and uplifts the overall quality of the skin.

The polyphenols are highest in the skin of the apple. All the vitamins and minerals from apples help relieve damage due to constant exposure to environmental concerns such as smog, dirt and grime.  The glycolic acid within apples will exfoliate and clear your pores. It can even help remove elements that may cause blemishes.

When selecting your apple, the freshest varieties are available from September through November.  Select apples with a rich vibrant color without any browning near the core. The green varieties should have a slight blush to their color.  In general, the larger the apple, the riper the apple will be.  Make sure they are firm and without bruises.  The sweetest are Red and Golden Delicious while Green, Fuji, Braeburn are tart.  Gravenstein, Pippin and Granny Smith apples are also tart and generally best for cooking and mashing because they maintain their texture.  For our purposes, pick the ones you like to eat and then include them in your beauty regime.
