Coconut Oil Multi-tasking Beauty Enhancer

Have you ever seen someone’s skin that has a illuminating silk sheen?  You can bet they are wearing coconut oil to give their skin that amazing glow.  And it’s such an amazing product to use for not just your skin but your hair and nails, and that’s why I call it the multi-tasker as it has so many wonderful uses to enhance your beauty needs. Plus Coconut oil does not become rancid like many other oils so it’s safe to use no matter the conditions. It can solidify and liquify with changing temperatures, but pure organic coconut oil will still retain the same quality.

Coconut Oil Multi-taking Beauty Enhancer on Hair

In ancient Egypt, women used coconut butter and oils in their hair to give it a silky sheen appearance and to also help with styling.  Coconut Oil can penetrate into the hair like no other oil as the oil actually bonds with the keratin and helps to increase the shine and moisture while improving the overall health.  Adding just a bit to the hair after styling will help smooth the flyways and prevent split ends.

The vitamins and essential fatty acids naturally found in coconut oil nourish the scalp, help to remove sebum build-up from hair follicles, smooth the hair strands, locks in moisture and prevents dandruff.  And because of this, Coconut oil on hair can actually helps your hair grow longer, thicker, and even faster.  If you are worried coconut oil will weight down your hair, just applying before bed and shampoo it out in the morning.  An ideal hair mask with Coconut oil should be on the hair for at least 60 minutes to allow the nutrients to work their magic.

Coconut Oil Multi-taking Beauty Enhancer on Skin

Coconut oil is widely used in many natural beauty products because of it’s naturally antibacterial and anti fungal properties.  It work well due to the saturated fats that helps the skin stay moisturized while sealing the moisture with out loss through the skin’s pores.  Coconut oil can give your the skin a healthy glow, smooth and even tone.  After a shower, rub the oil to your body for all day moisture retention.

The anti-fungal aspects of coconut oil can reduce acne and other chronic skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.  The protein found in coconut oil actually replaces the damaged cells with healthy ones to actually treat the infection.  Other medicinal uses include healing cold sores, stretch marks and sunburn.

You can add a bit of oil to the under eye area through out the day to control the visual appearance of wrinkles as normal eye cream dissipates through the day.  And even adding a bit to the lip makes a perfect lip balm.  Coconut oil can also be used to take off stubborn makeup, just follow up with your facial cleanser to remove any last traces of dirt or makeup.

Coconut Oil Multi-taking Beauty Enhancer on Nails

Coconut oil is also fantastic at nursing your cuticles. Because of it’s anti-fungal property, it helps protects your nails from fungal infections. Plus it moisturizes and strengthens the cuticles, and can make your nails stronger, healthier and shinier with regular use.  The emollient nature of coconut oil also helps to prevent your nails from getting dry and brittle.

Coconut Oil Multi-taking Beauty Enhancer is great to use all year round and for so many uses that this is a must have for your beauty routine!

One of the many bummer things about aging is thinning lips!  As the skin thins, the lips thin as well.  But no worries, there are easy ways to plump up the lips and display amazing luscious lips!

First let’s talk about the how,  there are two common ways to plump up the lips:

  • Irritation – Literally a slight irritation can swell the lips just to give enough to make more volume within the lips.
  • Vasodilation – This occurs when the blood vessels widen and blood flow will increase and provide more volume within the lips.

The good news is that you can control how much of the ingredients to use to make your perfect

lip volume.  Each of our skin will react differently so it’s best to test this on a small area before applying all over your lips.

Base properties of Rosy Organic Lip Plumper – This is can be oil or solid depending on your preferences.  Oils can include olive, almond, grape or vitamin E. Solids can be made from Coconut Butter, Shea Butter, or Cocoa Butter.

Place enough water in the saucepan to cover the bottom of the glass bowl. Gently heat up the ingredients to allow them to blend easily together.

Organic Eye Lash Night Serum

For those of us who wear eye make-up everyday, our eye lashes can take a beating when it’s time to clean the face.  I use a facial oil to remove make-up and then utilize a facial cleanser to gently wash off all traces of make-up.  Being gentle is the key, but what if you could do more?   And if you find yourself not getting enough fat soluble vitamins, b-vitamins, vitamin C and collagen, you may find that your eyelashes, skin and hair may become impacted.  To keep eye lashes strong and even a bit more longer and thicker, try this Organic eye lash night serum as the last eye topical treatment in your nightly facial regimen. It will really help your eye lashes maintain their proper growth cycle and look healthy for layering mascara.

  1. Cleanse the face before bedtime
  2. Moisture the face with your typical nightly regimen
  3. Use a clean mascara brush and dip it into pure cold pressed castor oil
  4. Apply the castor oil to the lashes just as you would mascara
  5. Allow the castor oil to set at least for 20 minutes before placing any part of your eye area on a pillow

It may take up to six weeks for any noticeable difference.  As any hair growth is predetermine through a preset function of the body. Hair generally follows a three-phase growth cycle and ends by eventually falling out.

Anagen or Growth Phase

Lashes are actively growing in this phase, lasting between 30 and 45 days. Around 40% of the upper lashes and 15% of the lower lashes are in the anagen phase at any one time. Each lash will grow to a specific length and then stop.

Catagen or Transition Phase

During this phase, lashes actually stop growing.  The hair follicle shrinks since it has completed it’s process.  If an eyelash falls out during this phase, it won’t grow back right away because the follicle needs to complete the catagen phase before it can move on to the next one. This phase lasts around 2 to 3 weeks.  This is why it’s very important to keep the eye lashes healthy.

Telogen or Resting Phase

This phase can last over 100 days before the eyelash falls out and a new one begins to grow.  Each individual lash is in its own phase of the growing cycle and the process is continually working. It typically takes between 4 to 8 weeks to fully replace an eyelash.

Cinnamon & Honey Facial Mask to Combat Acne

Cinnamon & Honey Facial Mask to Combat Acne

In the ancient world, Cinnamon trade was huge as it was extensively used for ritual and mundane purposes.  The trees are native to Sri Lanka but today, different species and cultivars are now grown all over South East Asia.  The Egyptians used it for embalming potions, perfumes, incense and oils. It is also mentioned in the Old Testament as sweet cinnamon is the second ingredient in the holy anointing oil.  In Exodus chapter 30:30-34, the holy anointing oil included the the finest of spices myrrh, sweet-smelling cinnamon, fragrant cane, cassia, and olive oil.

The word ‘Cinnamon’ is derived from the ancient Hebrew word ‘kinnämön, which in turn probably originates from the Malay or Indonesian term ‘Kayumanis’, meaning ‘sweet wood’. Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner barks of the trees belonging to the Cinnamomum plant family.  True Cinnamon is native to Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon and the south-eastern coast of India, while the closely related Cassia is native to China.

Cinnamon combats acne because of the board spectrum of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, microdermabrasion, and antioxidant properties within the plant.  These include cinnamaldehyde and proanthocyanidins.

By removing bacteria from the skin, cinnamon prevents the clogging of the skin pores and reduces the inflammation and increased sebum production caused by the microbes.  As an added benefit, cinnamon also reduces skin inflammation with the trans-cinnamaldehyde property which inhibits the production of nitric oxide.  Nitric oxide is a major component of the inflammation process and thereby reducing its production can help reduce acne swelling which presents as superficial (pimples, whiteheads and blackheads) and deep (nodules and cysts) acne lesions.  Additionally Cinnamon can also reduce inflammation through the inhibition of COX-2 or cyclooxygenase-2 synthesis.  COX-2 is a major component of the cascade reaction in the body that leads to skin inflammation.

These antioxidant properties of Cinnamon help protects the skin from environmental toxins.

In addition, ground cinnamon or cinnamon powder can provide a microdermabrasion effect on the skin by sloughing off the top layer of dirt formed by sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells.

Adding Honey into the recipe helps to offer strong antibacterial and antimicrobial benefits as a natural antioxidant to aid Cinnamon in combating and healing acne.  Honey can also sooth the skin to counteract any irritation caused by cinnamon.  Cinnamon allows the skin to become plump by bringing oxygen and blood to the surface while together both Cinnamon and Honey help remove excess oil from the skin’s surface.

Jasmine Almond Beeswax Perfume Recipe

Jasmine Almond Beeswax Perfume Recipe

As we approach the summer, it’s a perfect time to incorporate a Beeswax perfume to your fragrance collection as the body temperatures increase with warmer weather.  Beeswax are solid perfumes that are great to have in smaller pocket sized containers for on the go and traveling.

Beeswax absolute has a stronger scent as it has an unusually large amount of naturally occuring phenylacetic acid which is green, floral, sweet honey-like odor when diluted.  A small amount will go a long way and is generally used to offset strong floral notes.  It also has an added benefit of antiseptic properties.

The ancient Greeks and Egyptians used Jasmine as as an essential oil in aromatherapy, as it was thought to offer various healing effects.  Breathing in the scent of jasmine has the power to release feel-good brain chemicals that boost energy as well as reduce anxiety.  Recent research has indicated that inhaling jasmine oil is said to transmit messages to a brain region involved in controlling emotions.  This is also commonly known as the limbic system,  which influences the nervous system.  Inhaling Jasmine oil can affect a number of biological factors, including heart rate, stress levels, blood pressure, breathing, and immune function.
Jasmine oil is often used as a natural remedy for stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms and even as an aphrodisiac.

The name Jasmine is derived from the Persian yasmin which means “a gift from God” so named because of the intense fragrance of the blooms.
The scent rising off the petals is sweet and intoxicating.
Jasmine is found in more than 83% of all women’s scents and 33% of men’s. Jasmine oils can also help bolster skin’s immunity and protect skin from invading offenders especially as the seasons change.

Our other ingredient is Rosehip Oil which is expected to smell of roses, when in fact this wonderful hedgerow shrub is much more herbacious and earthy.  The ancient Egyptians and Mayans used it to hydrate their skin.  Rosehip is extracted from the seeds of a wild rose bush in the Southern Andes and is filled with provitamin A, omega-3 and essential fatty acids that help with wrinkles, dark-spots and even acne.

Combining these ingredients with almond oil can take a twist with floral and musky elements perfect for Spring and Summer months.

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp beeswax
2 Tbsp sweet almond oil
40 drops essential oil (jasmine, vanilla and rose hip)
Container for perfume (mint tins, empty eye cream jars or lip balm containers)

Recipe:

In your glass container, blend together your essential oils. You can use whatever ratio you like, or you can try this blend:

  • 10 drops jasmine
  • 10 drops vanilla
  • 10 drop rose hips

Directions:

Heat the beeswax on low heat in a metal pot and stir as it melts down.  Be sure to melt together slowly, increasing heat to medium once you notice the beeswax thinning.  Stir for a few minutes and then turn the heat down to low again.  Add your fragrance oil into the melted mixture once the beeswax is completely melted.  Be sure to melt together slowly.  And lastly, pour the mixture into your container(s).  Make sure your container is place on a heat tolerate countertop and allow the mixture to harden in the container for a few hours.  You can apply the mixture as soon as it’s cool to touch.  Store your perfume in a cool dark location.

Application:

Using your fingertips, gently rub a small portion on the pulse points: neck (carotid artery), on the inside of the elbow, at the inner wrist, behind the knee, and near the ankle joint.  Reapply ever 4 hours as necessary.

In order to help get your skin back to beautiful, clear, supple and soft, try the DIY Pear Honey & Milk Mask for Winter Skin.

Pears are amazing as they are packed with hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonoids which are designed to protect our skin cells from damage and as an added benefit they have natural antioxidants to shield our skin from environment pollutants. Pears naturally have lactic acid to help keep the skin hydrated for longer. Pears, especially ripe ones, contain a natural sugar alcohol named ‘sorbitol’ or sometimes referred to as ‘glucitol’, which prevents moisture loss by pulling water by osmosis from the air, hydrating skin.
